Choosing The Right Instrument
Drums
Benefits to beginners:
- Junior drum kits are now available for children as young as 5/6.
- Unlike most other instruments, a very good standard can be achieved without needing a good sense of pitch.
- A great alternative to 'traditional' instruments, especially for children with excess energy!
- Extremely rewarding once playing with other musicians, as drums are the 'backbone' of any band.
But:
- A reasonable amount of floor space is required for a fully set up drum kit ...approx 1.5 square metres.
- Unless you invest in an electronic version, some kind of sound proofing will be necessary!
- Sooner or later you will need to find other musicians or a band to play with.
- Not an ideal instrument to try to learn without a teacher, as a disciplined approach is needed.
